For all you out-of-stater’s, here is a list of things to do in the area (think CT/MA/RI, because honestly, Southern New England is small enough you could make a weekend out of it!)
If you stay close to Union, there is lots of food and entertainment in Sturbridge, MA, though if you don’t mind driving a little farther, either Worcester, MA (heading north) has lots to offer, as does Manchester, CT (heading south).
Bigelow Hollow State Forest, Union, CT (hike and swim)
The Woodstock Fair, Woodstock, CT (agricultural fair, the thing to do Labor Day weekend!)
Mark Twain House, Hartford, CT (the home of Samuel Clemens)
Want to go to the beach? Check out Hammonasset beach in beautiful Madison, CT. Or, for bigger waves, drive to Westerly, RI and check out Misquamicut beach
Connecticut has two casinos worth visiting even if you don’t like to gamble:
Foxwoods (which also includes the Pequot museum)
Mohegan Sun casino
MASSACHUSETTS:
Old Sturbridge Village, Sturbridge, Massachusetts (Explore what life used to be like in the 1800s)
Visit Boston for the day! Boston is only 68 miles from Union, and there is TONS to do in the city. Park at Riverside station (located at 333 Grove Street, off Exit 22 on I-95 /Route 128, in Auburndale, a village of Newton, Massachusetts) and take the T in so you’ll have worry-free parking.
Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Park isn’t too far away in Springfield, MA
